Sparkly Saturday: Her Universe Limited Edition Return of the Jedi Necklace

This week's Sparkly Saturday is the Limited Edition Return of the Jedi necklace by Her Universe. It was submitted by Heather (@Disneybigsis), who purchased it on her trip to Walt Disney World during Star Wars weekends last May. Since it was a limited edition item, it came with a certificate of authenticity that was also autographed by the creator of Her Universe, Ashley Eckstein, who is the voice of Ahsoka Tano on Star Wars: The Clone Wars. If she looks familiar to you, she also played Muffy on That's So Raven.

You can follow Ashley Eckstein and Her Universe on Twitter @HerUniverse!

Footwear Friday: The 2014 New Balance runDisney Shoes

Photocredit Competitor

I am totally in love with the new limited edition shoes New Balance has created for runDisney. The designs (from left to right) are Minnie Mouse and Cinderella for women, then Goofy and Sorcerer Mickey for men. They will be debuted at the Walt Disney World Marathon Expo on January 8-12, and will only be available at runDisney events, such as the Tinkerbell Half Marathon Expo January 6-19. I'm crossing my fingers to get a pair of the Cinderella slippers, which ones do you like/want?

New Year, New Beginnings

I started this blog as a sophomore in high school and succeeded in posting little more than half a dozen posts. The idea was ready, but I wasn't. Life got busy, which was a great thing for this former wallflower. I took a long break from the blog (as you can see my last post was when Miley first cut her hair...) and social media in general. As a senior now,  the timing is finally right for Fortuosity Fashions. Since it's the dawn of 2014, I am relaunching my blog with new ideas and a fresh look.

The name Fortuosity comes from one of my favorite Disney movies, "The Happiest Millionaire," and the logo was inspired by the Fortuosity Shop on Main Street in Disneyland. Not only will I feature Disney related items on this site, but other geeky things I love such as Star Wars, Doctor Who, Psych, and The Walking Dead. Here's a preview of what's to come!

Sweet Sunday- Fan goodies that are totally fashionable! Food stylists have jobs for a reason, right?

Makeup Monday- Whether it's a product that will last an epic day storming a Disney park, a look more suitable for ComicCon, or just something inspired by a character, I'll be featuring it!

T-shirt Tuesday- Let's see your favorite fan tee!

Watch Wednesday- Franchises have the tendency to create awesome timepieces. Do you have one?

Thinking Thursday- I will be posting my opinions about what's going on in various fan universes, and your opinions of whatever you're a fan of as well!

Footwear Friday- Shoes you always take to a Disney park, fan shoes, or just shoes that make you feel good.

Sparkly Saturday- Highlighting fan jewelry/pins.

You can send me your submissions at fortuosityfashions@gmail.com. When submitting items be sure to include a snapshot as well as a description of the item/why you love it/story about it.  If you're submitting opinions for Thinking Thursday, please keep it clean. I can't wait to hear from you and I am ecstatic to be relaunching Fortuosity Fashions!

Happy New Year

Former Disney Darling Sheds Lovely Locks

Miley's mane is now... punk! I for one, did not see this coming. I do love a nice waif cut, but this one seems a little too masculine. It's reminiscent to me of an 80's band.  However, it's not important what the you or I may think, as Miley loves it. She tweeted "most successful Sally day EVER! ❤❤❤ I feel pretty ohhhh so pretty and gayyyy" and that is all that matters here. While loving her My Fair Lady reference, I hate Miley's new hair. On the other hand I do have to give her points for being herself and doing what she wanted to do.

This week's style tip is: be you no matter what. A little more than a year ago I got a bob even when all of my friends told me not to get rid of my long hair. While the stylist was cutting my hair I wasn't sure I made the right decision. However, when she was done I knew I had done the right thing by not listening to my friends. Some of them ended up liking it and others didn't, but I was in love with my new hair and felt absolutely beautiful. It was a great, fun change, and now I'm growing it out again.

If you're considering a style change, discuss it with your hairdresser. My advice? Do it! That color didn't end up looking so good? You can re-dye it. Do you regret cutting it? It will eventually grow back. It's better to try a change than spend all your time wishing you had done it.

Support Women's Heart Health: National Wear Red Day®

What is the number one killer of women? My first guess wouldn't be the answer: heart disease. And even though it is the number one killer of women, it has been said to be largely preventable. The tough part is to get the word out on this disease. However, you can do something very simple to support women's health and raise awareness of this killer. February 3rd is National Wear Red Day®.
I love red. Some people are afraid to wear it because it's such a statement color, when in fact it's extremely versatile color and looks great on everyone. It's just a color that says "Here I am, adore me!" Research has also shown that men prefer women in red. There are many Disney characters who embrace red in their style, but I wanted to highlight someone very specific in this post.
Minnie Mouse. America's sweetheart. Mickey's true love. She wears all sorts of clothes (she is a fashion icon!), but we all know her signature look: red. Minnie is a classic example of how to wear red. She's confident, sweet, spunky, not to mention sensationally beautiful. When channeling Minnie, go for vintage inspired items. Also, what you choose doesn't have to have polka dots, it just needs to have the innocence and fabulousity that Minnie does.

Red

Minnie doesn't wear lipstick, but if she did I think it would be red. There's something about red lipstick that is an instant confidence booster (same goes for red nail polish). However, not all red lipsticks are created equal. Here is a tutorial on how to find the perfect red for you by Michelle Phan. She is an amazing make-up guru and I highly recommend her videos.

Red is an awesome color, period. Don't let yourself or someone you love become a statistic. I encourage you to participate in raising awareness for the number one killer of women, heart disease, on National Wear Red Day®. It's such a simple thing that can make a big difference.
